Art can be a strange thing. It´s not obvious that you fall in love immediately. And maybe, it´s nothing to strive for. It may take some time to get acquainted with a work of art. It requires an open mind, even some courage, to explore and find the stories that are hidden in the subject, the shapes and colors.
A great artwork can be rebellious. It doesn´t always say hello to you with open arms. A work of art can be obvious, sometimes you are invited by the artist and the next time you don´t understand anything and yet the love is overwhelming.
In our gallery in Hjo we will arrange exhibitions and performances that have something to say. We will show art that touches us, art that is the beginning of a long friendship and art that has been a companion for many years.
Karin Wingårdh
Sculptures
I found inspiration for my sculptures on a flea at the Porte de Clignancourt in Paris. An animal head of wood in an African shop got my attention. I was stroked by the thought of creating something similar, but in another material. Back home, I made my first sculpture in papier-maché. I created more sculptures, inspired by living close to nature.
"There is a line from Africa's savannah to the Swedish fauna. The same light bodies filled with explosive energy. A force field like the lines in my palm. I chase the invisible tracks under the fur of the animals. The primitive force that people living close to the nature are aware of. "
Karin Wingårdh was born in Kungsbacka in 1954. She´s been living on the Swedish West coast outside Kungälv since 1992. Karin was educated as an architect at Chalmers University of Technology in 1973-1977. When working as an architect with a number of attentive housing projects, she studied art at the Art School of Gerlesborgs School and Folkuniversitet. Marita Wallin
Paintings
Actually, I would as well be writer. It's about telling stories. Sometimes just for myself, sometimes for other people. My pictures are about people and relations, memories. I think a lot about our memory. Do I only remember my own memories, or can I also remember other people’s thoughts through our collective memory? As an emotional archeologist in our history. I often use the portrait as a means to investigate the expression in the picture. In recent years, I have also worked with landscapes and patterns, preferably at the same time.
